Richard D. Coutts, M.D.
Dr. Coutts is the Medical Director for Orthopaedics for the Sharp Memorial Healthcare System, San Diego, and a practicing physician in a San Diego orthopedic group. In addition, he is an Adjunct Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of California San Diego and co-director of a joint reconstruction fellowship. Dr. Coutts' medical training includes a Medical Degree from the University of California at Los Angeles Medical School; a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of California, San Diego Hospital; a fellowship in orthopedic research at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Center in Oxford, England; and a clinical and research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, where he studied joint reconstruction. He has published over 200 articles, abstracts and book chapters, and has been active in a number of professional societies, including as President of the Orthopaedic Research Society; President of the Hip Society; member of the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS); chair of the AAOS Council of Musculoskeletal Specialty Societies; and Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Vice Chairman of Grants of the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation. He is currently the President of the Board of Directors for the Malcolm and Dorothy Coutts Institute for Joint Reconstruction and Research.
Scott D. Gillogly, M.D.
Scott D. Gillogly, M.D., is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. Dr. Gillogly is President of the NHL Team Physicians Society. He is the Past Chairman of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Committee on Sports Medicine Evaluation, Past-President of the American Sports Medicine Fellowship Society and a member of the Herodicus Society.
Dr. Gillogly earned his Bachelor of Science Degree at the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York, where he excelled as the captain and quarterback of the Army football team, and his Medical Degree from Duke University School of Medicine, Durham, North Carolina. He proceeded to a surgical internship and orthopaedic residency program at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C.
Dr. Gillogly is sub-specialty trained in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopic Surgery, with an emphasis in the treatment and surgery of the knee, shoulder, elbow and ankle. While Chief of Sports Medicine and Director of Orthopaedic Research at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, Denver, Colorado, Dr. Gillogly authored numerous lectures, exhibits and publications on a wide range of Sports Medicine topics including aspects of knee ligament reconstructive surgery, shoulder and elbow arthroscopy, and overuse syndromes in athletes.
Dr. Gillogly serves as the Head Team Physician and Orthopaedic Surgeon for the Atlanta Thrashers NHL Hockey Team and the Atlanta Falcons NFL Football Team and consults with numerous Atlanta area high schools, national and local athletic events. Dr. Gillogly is the Past Medical Director of the Women's United Soccer Association. He is currently the Director of Sports Medicine Training for the Atlanta Medical Center Orthopaedic Residency Program. He is the Medical Director of the Cartilage Repair Centers of America.
Dr. Gillogly specializes in cartilage restoration, complex knee disorders and biologic knee reconstruction as well as sports and shoulder injuries.
Raffy Mirzayan, M.D.
Dr. Mirzayan attained a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Los Angeles with Departmental Honors in Kinesiology. He then attended the University of Southern California School of Medicine, and graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha medical honors. He graduated from residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Los Angeles County University of Southern California Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA, where he was Chief Resident. He then completed a sports medicine fellowship at the prestigious Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles, where he was assistant team physician to the Lakers, Dodgers, Angels, Kings, Ducks and Galaxy. Dr. Mirzayan is currently a Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine. He is also the Co-Director of Sports Medicine and Director of Cartilage Repair and Restoration at Kaiser Permanente, Baldwin Park, CA.
Dr. Mirzayan has a great interest in research and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications. He has received several awards including the AOA-Zimmer Award, Vernon P. Thompson Award and DePuy Research Award for his research in the field of ACL injuries in women. He has presented his work at various national and international meetings including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Orthopaedic Research Society, Western Orthopaedic Association and California Orthopaedic Association. He has published three books in the field of orthopaedics and sports medicine. He serves on several committees of local and national orthopaedic societies. His orthopaedic interests include athletic injuries of the knee, shoulder and elbow, including ligament repair and reconstruction, arthroscopy and cartilage restoration and repair.
