Timothy J. Patrick
President and Chief Executive Officer

Prior to founding Carticept in 2005, Tim was President and CEO of Proxima Therapeutics, Inc., a medical device company that developed and marketed innovative local radiation delivery systems for the treatment of solid cancerous tumors. Proxima was acquired by Cytyc Corporation in March 2005 for approximately $187 million. Prior to co-founding Proxima Therapeutics in 1996, Tim was President of Gesco International, the leading manufacturer of peripherally inserted central venous catheters. Before serving as President of Gesco International, he ran two high growth divisions for McGaw Inc., an oncology drug provider. He also held a number of sales and sales management positions at American Hospital Supply Corporation. Tim has served on the Board of Directors of the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed). He is currently on the Board of the Georgia Tech Coulter Grant Committee; serves on the Board of Georgia Bio and chairs its Medical Device Committee; and is a member of the Directors Circle at Yerkes National Primate Research Center. An inventor on several patents related to localized radiation delivery systems, Tim earned his BA in Zoology from Miami University in Ohio.


Barry J. Hassett
Vice President, Marketing

Barry joined Carticept in September 2009 with 18 years of experience in the medical device industry.  Prior to Carticept, Barry was Vice President, Marketing for CardioMEMS, Inc., an early-stage company that markets a proprietary wireless monitoring technology for measuring intra-arterial pressure in patients with cardiovascular disease. From 2000 until 2006, he served as Director of Marketing for Proxima Therapeutics, Inc., a medical device company that developed and marketed innovative local radiation delivery systems for the treatment of solid cancerous tumors.  Proxima was acquired by Cytyc Corporation in March 2005 for approximately $187 million.  He started his career in the orthopedic industry, holding positions of increasing responsibility with Smith and Nephew Orthopaedics and Sulzer Orthopedics from 1990 through 1999. Barry earned a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University and a Master of Science in Bioengineering from Dartmouth College.


Richard B. Knostman
Vice President, Operations

From 2001 until joining Carticept in 2005, Rick was the Vice President, Operations for Proxima Therapeutics, Inc., a medical device company that developed and marketed innovative local radiation delivery systems for the treatment of solid cancerous tumors.  Proxima was acquired by Cytyc Corporation in March 2005 for approximately $187 million. Prior to joining Proxima, he served as Division Vice President of Operations for Bard Access Systems, the world's leading manufacturer of vascular access catheters and ports and a division of C.R. Bard, Inc. Prior to his position with Bard, he was Vice President of Operations for Gesco International, a division of MedChem Products that was acquired by Bard in 1996. Rick also worked at Baxter Healthcare Corporation for 17 years, serving in positions that included plant manager, division planning manager and production manager. Rick earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from the University of Arizona, Tucson.


Deborah J. Moore
Vice President, Regulatory, Quality, & Clinical Affairs

From 1998 until joining Carticept in 2005, Debbie was Vice President, Regulatory, Quality, and Clinical Affairs for Proxima Therapeutics, Inc., a medical device company that developed and marketed innovative local radiation delivery systems for the treatment of solid cancerous tumors. Proxima was acquired by Cytyc Corporation in March 2005 for approximately $187 million. Debbie has extensive experience in developing regulatory and clinical strategy, designing clinical trials and obtaining regulatory approvals and clearances for novel therapeutic technologies. Prior to joining Proxima, she served as the Director of Regulatory and Clinical Affairs for Dornier Medical Systems, a leader in urologic medical devices. She successfully managed Dornier's regulatory submissions, multi-center clinical trials and quality system. Prior to joining Dornier, she was responsible for regulatory and quality affairs at Technomed International, a leader in microwave technology for benign prostatic hyperplasia that was later acquired by EDAP TMS SA. Debbie earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Simmons College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University.


Peter J. Pizzo, III
Vice President, Finance & Chief Financial Officer

From 2002 until joining Carticept in 2005, Peter was the Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Proxima Therapeutics, Inc., a medical device company that developed and marketed innovative local radiation delivery systems for the treatment of solid cancerous tumors. Proxima was acquired by Cytyc Corporation in March 2005 for approximately $187 million. Prior to joining Proxima in 2002, he served in senior financial positions with Serologicals Corporation, a $150 million publicly traded global provider of biological products to life science companies, the last two years as Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer. During his tenure, Serologicals completed a public equity financing, a $75 million syndicated credit facility and a number of acquisitions. He previously served as Vice President of Administration and Controller of ValueMark Healthcare Systems, Inc., a privately held owner-operator of psychiatric hospitals, and in various senior financial positions at Hallmark Healthcare Corporation, a publicly traded hospital management company, most recently as Treasurer. Peter earned a Bachelor of Science with Special Attainments in Commerce from Washington and Lee University.


Robert R. Singer
Vice President, Sales

Bobby joined Carticept in September of 2008 with the Company’s acquisition of SaluMedica, LLC where he was serving as President.  SaluMedica, an Atlanta-based company, developed implantable medical devices utilizing its proprietary biomaterial technology.  Bobby joined SaluMedica as Vice President of Sales in 2004 focusing on international growth.  In early 2007, he was promoted to President and became a member of the company’s Board of Directors.  Prior to that, Bobby served as Vice President of Sales for Horizon Medical Products Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of general and vascular surgery products used in the treatment of oncology patients.  Before leading worldwide sales, he held positions as National Sales Manager, Regional Sales Manager and early in his 15 years with Horizon, covered the Georgia territory as a sales representative.  Bobby earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Mercer University.


Steven P. Walsh, Ph.D.
Vice President, Research and Development

Steve joined Carticept as Vice President, Research and Development in March 2009.  From 1998 until he joined the Company, Steve served in senior development positions with CryoLife, Inc., the leader in allograft cryopreservation services and a developer of implantable biological devices, surgical adhesives and biomaterials for use in cardiac, vascular, general and reconstructive surgery. His most recent position was Senior Director, Biomaterials Technologies and Product Development. From 1993 until 1998, he served in various capacities with Biocontrol Technology, Inc., a company involved in the design, manufacture and sale of biomedical products and devices. Steve earned a Bachelor of Science in Plastics Engineering from the University of Lowell and a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Macromolecular Science from Case Western Reserve University.
